With the Champions League Final fast approaching we take a look back at some of our favourite goals that crowned teams Champions of Europe.
"He's Done It!"
Cut Didier Drogba open, and he bleeds Blue. His passion, commitment and desire to help the club to success, along with countless match-winning goals has secured his place in the fans hearts - and let us not forget his last kick in a Chelsea shirt. 19th of May 2012.
"Captain Fantastic"
3-0 down at half time in the 2005 Champions League Final in Istanbul to the superstars of A C Milan, the Liverpool crowd and, probably, most of their players were in despair. But not Captain Fantastic. His looping header rallied them all, his trademark surge into the box won them a penalty, he performed heroics getting his team through the game and extra time. He has been described as four good players in one. This night he proved it with arguably his best ever performance and certainly his most important ever goal.
"Believe"
They say you couldn't write it, but it happened. 1-0 down in the Champions League Final against the mighty Bayern Munich and moving into 3 minutes of injury time, United's dream of European glory and an historic treble looked over. Step forward the 2 substitutes. Sheringham equalised and then the Baby-Faced Assassin put his dagger into German hearts with this unforgettable winner.
"Galactico"
It's one of those goals we all remember from a player we'll never forget. Zizou's perfect volley from the edge of the box on his 'weaker' left foot was simply unstoppable. Watching Europe stood as one to applaud his outstanding skill as he and Real Madrid went on to lift the 2002 Champions League trophy. Unforgettable.
"Oh It Must Be!"
‘OH IT MUST BE...IT IS. PETER WITHE!. With 67 minutes on the clock, Morley twisted and turned past the defender before slotting the ball across the box. Unmarked at the far post, Withe met the cross with an unconventional strike, but who cared? The ball flew off his shin and into the net crowning the Claret and Blues Kings of Europe!
"Auf Wiedersehen Hamburg"
Although Forest were the defending Champions, Hamburg went into the 1980 European Cup Final as favourites having thrashed Real Madrid 5-1 in the second leg of the semi-final - and with England captain and European Footballer of the Year Kevin Keegan desperately wanting a winner's medal. But master tactician Brian Clough had their measure. Playing right footed players on the left wing so they can cut in has become fashionable with modern coaches but Cloughie was doing it 30 years ago. Step forward John Robertson. Auf wiedersehen Keegan. Forest became the first team to win the European Cup more times than they had won their own league.
