North London Derby - Best Bits
Leaping For Joy
The best free kick Wembley has ever seen, fittingly by one of the best talents England has ever produced. After watching his 30 yard effort soar into the top corner Gazza, like many of us watching, couldn't contain his joy, leaping into the air in celebration. The goal helped Spurs to a famous 3-1 victory against their bitter North London rivals, as well as sending them through to the 1991 FA cup final. Magnificent.
The Kneeslide
One of the finest goals ever seen at Highbury and all the sweeter for being against arch rivals Tottenham. Henry picked up the ball in his own half leaving opponents in his wake with his pace before dancing round the back four and slotting the ball into the corner of the net. The famous kneeslide celebration in front of the Spurs fans is now immortalised as a statue outside the Emirates Stadium - a fitting tribute to a living legend.
One Of Our Own
In this, his debut season, Harry Kane has captured the hearts of the Tottenham faithful. His hold up play, dribbling skills, control, heading ability, shooting power seem to make him the complete centre forward. His goals have spearheaded Spurs progress up the table, none more celebrated than this sublime header in the 85th minute to win the North London Derby that took Spurs above Arsenal in the League table for the first time in years. And all this for the team he has supported from a boy. A dream come true.
Thriller
This North London derby which Arsenal ran out 5-4 winners with 9 different goal scorers on the score sheet.
Long Overdue
Spurs hadn't won a North London Derby in eight and a bit years but they ended that run in style. 5-1 winners in the 2008 league cup semi final where they would go on to lift the trophy.
Lets hope for some more memorable moments in this weekends fixture!
