1979 was Forest's first European Cup Final and the game itself was Trevor Francis's first ever European match. Brian Clough had bought Francis in the February making him Britain's first million pound player but he couldn't play European football for another 3 months due to UEFA rules. Having knocked out the holder's Liverpool in the first round Forest were favourites to win against unfashionable Malmo who set out their stall to play for penalties from the kick-off. But they couldn't hold off the irrepressible Francis who scored with a diving header just before half time. His first European goal proving that he was worth every penny.
